BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Wind tunnels are used to test models and wind monitoring equipment. Commercially available bench top wind tunnels do not have exact speed control. High speeds are not always a focus of pre-built bench top test stations. A lab must be designed to be used in the sensors and instrumentation class.

PROBLEM STATEMENT

SENSOR AND INSTRUMENTATION CLASS

Currently there is no accurate way to make anemometers spin at a known speed. Professor St. Denis would like to implement the use of anemometers into the Sensors and Instrumentation course.

LAMINAR FLOW

The wind tunnel needed to have laminar flow to help produce a smooth PWM signal.

30 MPH WIND SPEEDS

The wind tunnel needed to capable of 20 mph wind speeds. This will help to provide a wider range of test speeds.
